If you’re looking for a reason to go to Jersey

They say you can’t believe everything you see on TV. They say seeing is believing. Well, in the case of the infamous Cake Boss bakery, Carlo’s, tasting is believing. One trip to New Jersey to taste for ourselves made believers out of us. If you really want to know whether or not Carlo’s tastes as good as it looks on TV, take a trip to New Jersey and find out for yourself!

For those who don’t know, Buddy Valastro is the owner of Carlo’s, a bakery that originated in Hoboken, New Jersey. Carlo’s is no new kid on the block, as it has been a family business since 1910, but in April of 2009, the show Cake Boss aired on TLC, giving the bakery a spotlight that would change its history forever. Since the airing of the popular reality TV show, which follows the business and lives of the Valastro family, Buddy has been able to create a small empire out of a once small, local business. So, if New Jersey is too out of the way, you can visit a Carlo’s bakery in Times Square, the Florida Mall, or even Las Vegas. However, my recommendation only stands for the original in New Jersey.

From cannoli’s and cakes, to lobster tails and chocolate covered strawberries, these guys have got your sweet tooth cravings covered. Because I have to eat gluten-free, I got the chocolate covered strawberries. They were the most decadent chocolate covered strawberries I have ever tasted. Carlo’s does not discriminate; chocolate covered strawberries come in white, milk, or dark chocolate. So, even though fruit fondue is not what Carlo’s is known for, I was thoroughly impressed. For those who are looking for a classic Cake Boss treat, I would recommend the lobster tail. My girlfriend’s can attest to that recommendation. Satisfied palates outweigh the cost of sticky fingers and extra calories every time.

Buddy Valastro once said, “I like making cakes, and I’m good at it.” I like to say I like eating chocolate, and I’m good at it. If you’re anything like me, go to Carlo’s. If anything, it’s an excuse to visit New Jersey!
