On average, 7.7 million people ride the New York City subway every weekday. A young student routinely makes his way to the subway. Thousands of students, ranging from junior high to graduate school level, use the subway each day to commute to school. A passenger descends to the station at 86th Street in Manhattan, one of 469 subway stations in New York City. The many stations scattered throughout the five boroughs help to unify highly diverse New York City.
