Located in Central Park, the Bethesda Terrace contains the iconic Bethesda Fountain and overlooks The Lake. The fountain symbolizes a reference from the Gospel of John in the Bible, showing an angel blessing the Pool of Bethesda. It celebrates when New York City was first brought fresh water in 1842 by the Croton water system. Before the system, the city had dealt with a cholera epidemic, and the statue symbolized the purification of the sickness from the city.
At the terrace, enjoy the sunny weather, catch street performers in action, or take a selfie with friends.
Relax alongside The Lake while catching up on that reading you’ve been meaning to finish.
